Orlando Florida Recreation:
While the thriving
vacation destination of Orlando might be most famous for being
home to Mickey Mouse and friends at the Walt Disney World Resort,
Orlando is a multi-faceted recreational hub that has numerous forms
of recreation to offer visitors to central Florida.
And on top of
all the entertainment to be enjoyed in Orlando,
the climate here in central Florida is an attraction
all its own. These two factors combine to make
Orlando a vacation destination that is truly
second to none in all of North America.
The Greater Orlando region is a city wrapped around a lake, covered
with colorful orange groves and other tropical delights. While agriculture
marked the beginning of Orlando development, that quickly changed
when famed American, Walt Disney decided to follow up his thriving
southern California theme park, Disneyland- with a second, and even
larger theme park in America’s other tropical paradise- Florida.
Orlando emerged as Walt’s first choice- because in Orlando
he was able to purchase enough land to offer him the scale for recreational
development that highly populated southern California couldn’t
offer.
Once Walt and gang moved into town, a host of other world-class
recreational theme parks and attractions followed suit. These attractions
included a host of museums (including the Mennello Museum of American
Folk Art and the Orlando Museum of Art), and a variety of performing
arts stages (that now play host to a thriving music scene showcasing
local jazz, alternative and indie talent).
And that placed Orlando
in elite recreational company in the United States.
Not only had the Orange County, Florida region
emerged as a recreational hub on the eastern seaboard,
but in addition, Orlando offered easy and central
access to both Florida coasts and boasted a tropical
climate that is largely unparalleled in the United
States.
As mentioned previously, the building of the Walt
Disney World Resort in Orlando, christened a season in which
several world-class theme park moved into the area. These included:
Universal Studios Florida- where interactive,
movie magic is on display front and center), and
SeaWorld (which offers theme shows, rides for the
kids, and famous animal aqua attractions), Universal
Orlando's Islands of Adventure (divided into the
exciting sections of Seuss Landing, the Lost Continent,
Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, and Marvel Comic Superhero
Island), and the Wet ‘n’
Wild Theme Park (featuring waterslides, heat controlled pools and
fun rides).
Cypress Gardens and Discovery Cove are another
two theme parks in the Orlando region- where interactive,
natural wonders are on display for you and your
family to enjoy.
The entertaining
attractions that call Orlando home are really too many to mention.
Needless to say, a Florida vacation in Orlando is one filled with
recreational highlights to keep you and your family occupied for
days and even weeks on end. The attractions are as diverse as they
are exciting; so it’s guaranteed that there’s something
for everyone in Orlando- no matter what their age or personal recreational
preference. Beyond the exciting Orlando theme parks, Orange County,
Florida also offers world-class golfing, shopping, and every other
imaginable favorite recreational pastime.
